Music Monday – Four by One Direction

Four - One Direction

Where to begin with this review?

It’s entirely different to their very first lot of music. That much has to be made clear. Just from listening to One Direction’s fourth studio album, Four, you can tell just how much the five boys have changed since they were starting out as a group of singing teens. Now, they’ve come out with what I think is their most mature sounding music.

Compare it to previous work from the One Direction boys, and it’s oddly refreshing to listen to. There’s no bubble-gum pop style music anymore to overwhelm you with cheesy lyrics. It’s all very mature sounding and reflects the age of each member. It’s a change in sound to what you would image to come across as the group get older and their fans get older also.

Not only does it present a new style of music for the boys, it shows the beginning of their song writing skills. They manage to work a different genre to fit their voices and if I’m entirely honest, I think it works better than previous work. With songs such as ‘No Control’ and ‘Clouds’, there more use of instruments rather than back in tracks and tuning.

Everything about the album is mature, and I think that’s the word I use to describe Four, it’s worked to fit their voices and shows that they’ve gone through the transition of being teenagers just starting out in the business to young and experienced musicians.

So all in all, it’s a pretty decent album and I can say that I will more than happily listen to it.
